Hallo ihr Lieben,
Nach dem Frühstück haben wir heute Morgen die ersten beiden Koffer gepackt – alles, was wir heute und morgen definitiv nicht mehr brauchen, plus die Dreckwäsche. Übrig blieb ein fast leerer Koffer und nicht mehr allzu viel im RV – perfekt also für den geplanten Outletbesuch.
After breakfast this morning, we packed the first two suitcases – everything we definitely won’t need today or tomorrow, plus the dirty laundry. That left us with one almost empty suitcase and not too much left in the RV – perfect for the planned outlet visit.
Nachdem alles verstaut war, machten wir uns auf den Weg nach Downtown. Der Stadtteil Gastown erinnerte uns ein wenig an Dublin – ein Hauch von Arbeiterstadt, nur sauberer. Dort steht auch die berühmte Steam Clock: Sie sieht aus wie eine viktorianische Standuhr, wird aber tatsächlich von Dampf angetrieben. Jede Viertelstunde stößt sie hörbar Dampf aus und pfeift wie eine Lokomotive, zur vollen Stunde gibt es sogar ein kleines „Konzert“. Eher Show als technisches Meisterwerk – aber ein beliebtes Fotomotiv und Symbol für den historischen Charme von Gastown.
Once everything was stowed away, we headed downtown. The Gastown district reminded us a little of Dublin – a touch of working-class town, just cleaner. There you’ll also find the famous Steam Clock: it looks like a Victorian-style clock, but is actually powered by steam. Every quarter hour it hisses and whistles like a locomotive, and on the hour it even gives a little “concert.” More of a showpiece than a true technical marvel – but a popular photo spot and a symbol of Gastown’s historic charm.
Da es dort ansonsten vor allem Souvenirshops und Restaurants gab, haben wir uns entschieden, die Stadt hinter uns zu lassen, und den Vandusen Botanical Garden besucht. Eine grüne Oase mitten in Vancouver: über 7.000 Pflanzenarten aus aller Welt, Themengärten von japanisch bis arktisch, verschlungene Wege, ein Labyrinth, ein kleiner Wasserfall und dazu jede Menge Ruhe. An einem Tag ist das gar nicht alles zu schaffen, aber die Highlights haben wir gesehen – und die wunderbar duftenden Blumen genossen.
Since Gastown mostly offered souvenir shops and restaurants, we decided to leave the city behind and visit the Vandusen Botanical Garden. A green oasis in the middle of Vancouver: over 7,000 plant species from around the world, themed gardens ranging from Japanese to Arctic, winding paths, a maze, a small waterfall – and plenty of peace and quiet. You can’t possibly see it all in one day, but we managed the highlights and enjoyed the wonderfully fragrant flowers.
Im Anschluss ging es noch einmal ins Outlet, in dem wir schon am ersten Tag waren – schließlich hatten wir ja jetzt wieder Platz im Koffer. Danach zurück zum RV, Einkäufe verstaut, Pizza gegessen und den Abend gemütlich ausklingen lassen.
After that, we headed back to the outlet we had already visited on our first day – after all, we now had space in our suitcases again. Then it was back to the RV, stowing our shopping, enjoying a pizza, and winding down the evening.
Mein Fazit zu diesem Urlaub:
Es war mit Abstand der schönste Urlaub, den wir je gemacht haben – und er wird mir immer im Herzen bleiben. Die Insel und ihre Menschen haben mir so viel mehr geschenkt, als ich je zu träumen gewagt hätte. Und das will etwas heißen, denn bisher war San Francisco für mich die unangefochtene Nummer 1. Ich hoffe, es war nicht unser letzter Besuch – auch wenn die Anreise lang ist. Und klar: Kanada ist wirklich teuer, das sprengt schnell den Rahmen – aber jede Minute war es wert. Im Großen und Ganzen stimmt mir auch Marcel dabei zu.
My conclusion for this trip:
This was by far the most beautiful vacation we have ever taken – and it will forever stay in my heart. The island and its people gave me so much more than I ever dared to dream. And that means a lot, since San Francisco had always been my undisputed number one. I truly hope it won’t be our last visit – even though the journey is long. And yes: Canada really is expensive, it easily stretches the budget – but every single minute was worth it. Overall, Marcel agrees with me on that.
